Salter trailers fold up quick and easy for storage Salter Trailers are better! People have been surfing the net and viewed other websites and there letting us know they have found a better price on the same trailer and ask us to price match. Well that’s not the case. The other vender had NOT given them proper information. If you’re buying from another country, firstly they must be Transport Canada Approved. If not you must get them inspected for compliance in Canada and that can cost you up to $240.00 extra. Not all Red or Black folding trailers are the same so buyer beware. Some other vendors have been showing pictures of Salter trailers in their ad’s even though they're not authorized to do so or a dealer for I.B.W.! So before you purchase one of their trailers verify that's it's a salter trailer or contact us first. Manufacturers & Warranty Detail: This product is free from defects in materials and workmanship and is guaranteed for 12 months from the date of purchase. Limitations apply. Commercial use is 3 months.
What I expected

I was looking for a folding trailer larger than the 4x8 models found at Harbor Freight and I like the 5-foot width it is great since I can load my lawn tractor with a 48 inch deck, carry 4x8 sheet goods and have enough room for yard waste with appropriate sides. I also like the 2 inch receiver.
I have assembled the trailer and generally, it went well. The metal is appears to be powder coated and of heavy gauge. The hardware seems to be of good to high quality. The trailer is overall of good quality for the price. The lights are LED and appear to be of ok quality. Wire ties are provided for the wiring. The wire harness appears to be long enough to reach all the lights. The harness is designed to use the trailer itself for the ground circuit but I dont think there were any terminals provided for attachment to the frame. I actually used separate wires for the ground circuit to ensure a good ground was provided and provided my own terminals, wiring hardware etc.
However, the directions are terrible and pictures not useable. I have air tools and multiple wrenches and it still took me about 10 hours overall. Also, there are a couple of issues not addressed at all in the directions that need to be considered. One is that you have to make sure each 4x5 section of the frame is square. A little off will be readily apparent when you fold the trailer. Another issue is the attachment of the casters to the trailer. They need to be held as the nut is tightened. What is required is a very thin wrench. A cheap one was provided (which would have worked) but it was the wrong size. Thankfully, I had one that would work. Also, the folding hinges dont appear to be too robust. They will probably be ok but again the hinges need to be adjusted properly during assembly to ensure appropriate alignment of the two sections of the bed. This is not addressed in the directions but will become apparent quickly if not done correctly. Also, the frame connections located in the area of the hinge need to be assembled in a certain sequence or some nuts will be blocked and not available for tightening. Also, there are limited instructions about the wiring.
Some other considerations include the documentation for me to register the trailer came in the mail after I got the trailer. I managed to get it registered with what I had but it was uncertain.
So, notwithstanding all my comments I am happy with the quality of the trailer and I was not surprised with the build related issues. The trailer is manufactured in China and English translation did not seem to be a concern. If you are handy, you should be able to put this together but it does take some time. I am looking forward to using the trailer.
Good trailer for the price

On-line ordering was easy, the trailer shipped quickly, there were no missing parts, assembly was mostly problem free, and after a 2000 mile trip with a 1400 lb load there are no problems to report.
Would I recommend this trailer? The answer is YES.
As well, any questions that I had were answered quickly and correctly by IBW.
Keep in mind, however, that assembly and finishing takes some time. This is not a project that you finish in an afternoon, unless perhaps you do this sort of thing all the time. And I'd highly recommend access to a quality metric socket set. The instructions were mostly clear, and the few points that were out-of-date were pretty easy to figure out. DO NOT be tempted to skip ahead though; assembly in the order laid out in the instructions is important, trust me on this.
Great people to deal with

The whole experience of ordering from IBW was great and I'm very pleased with the trailer itself. I'm mentioning you anytime I get asked about my new trailer, which is surprisingly often.

I have only had the chance to assemble the trailer, but so far it looks really good. Kevin at IBW has been super helpful. the certificates needed to register the trailer in Alberta and the name plate for the trailer arrived a couple days after in the mail and all was in order to easily license it. I had a couple assembly questions and Kevin's answers helped me solve the problem. the only minor thing that I see about the trailer is that the wheel bearing grease nipples are straight thread which, imo, make them a bit harder to align for easy gun access. I am really pleased with the trailer so far.
